The Professional Domiciliary Equipment Package is more about the suction unit choice than anything else. If your priority is size then it's the DeVilbiss Vacuaide Compact 7310P-U, if it's power then the CA-MI AS 36Br with an airflow rate of 40l/min will be your choice. A good all-rounder of size, noise, weight and versatility is the perfectly-formed DeVilbiss 7325P-U. All these units are rechargeable but the CAMI AS100 which isn't rechargeable still makes it onto the list because it's a great budget option if you know that you'll have a socket nearby. 40l/min, reasonably quiet and portable is a tempting lower-cost option.
The rest of the package offers every bit of equipment necessary to start a mobile professional aural microsuction practice and it's totally customisable. This is the same, carefully selected equipment used daily by ourselves in our own practice and in our training sessions, so you know it's the best!
Canister Options:
There are canisters that are designed to fit liners and canisters that are designed to be used without liners. The latter requires sterilising and the former does not. Due to the majority of ear wax removal clinics not having access to sterilising equipment we generally recommend the use of liners.
The size of the canister/liner is relative to the volume of patients that you see and the amount of water used for flushing through. 2000ml is the standard size and is usually large enough for relatively busy clinics.
If you are using non-gelling liners then these will require replacing daily. The gelling liners can be left unchanged for up to 1 week depending on room temperature.
Video Otoscope Options:
In our opinion, a video otoscope is not a luxury, it's an essential item. The ability to clearly explain the condition of a patient's ear prior to and post-procedure will improve everyones' experience and help prevent many potential issues. The image/video capture features of all these products allow you to keep objective documentation of the ear canal and tympanic membrane integrity which you may well be very grateful for in the future.
OTOvideo TM Otoscope
This plug-and-play USB otoscope provides high-definition visuals and is compatible with various operating systems. It also has a pre-warmed tip to prevent lens fogging.
Firefly DE500 Digital Video Otoscope
Of the three Fireflies, the Firefly DE500 Digital Video Otoscope has the best magnification and resolution values by quite some margin. It's also the lowest priced so unless wireless or mobile is essential then this model would be our recommendation.
Firefly DE550 Wireless Digital Video Otoscope
The Firefly DE550 Digital Video Otoscope is the best if you really would like a wireless option.
Firefly DE570 HD Wireless Mobile Video Otoscope
The Firefly DE570 HD Wireless Mobile Video Otoscope is what you need if you wish to display your images on mobile devices such as phones and tablets.
