Otinova Ear Spray is used for the self-care treatment of otitis externa, also known as swimmer’s ear, which is an inflammation or infection of the ear canal. It's an easy-to-use antibacterial and anti-fungal spray that offers an alternative to antibiotics.
While Otinova is designed to be safe for use in treating otitis externa, individuals with sensitive skin or allergies may benefit from performing a patch test, especially if you have a history of allergic reactions to skincare or medical products. Apply a small amount of Otinova® on the inner forearm and wait for 24 hours. If any redness, itching, or other irritations occur, it's advisable to consult a healthcare provider before using it in the ear canal.
Otinova is suitable for people prone to otitis externa, swimmers, divers, and users of hearing aids, headphones, or earplugs. It is designed to treat and provide relief from the symptoms of otitis externa.
Otinova should not be used by children under 5 years of age without a doctor’s recommendation, which typically involves an eardrum check to ensure safety.
No specific studies have been conducted on pregnant or lactating women. Therefore, Otinova should be used with caution during pregnancy and breastfeeding, and it's recommended to avoid use during these times unless necessary.
Otinova contains aluminum acetate, aluminum acetotartrate, acetic acid, and water, with a pH of 3–4. It's free of antibiotics, providing a unique approach to treating otitis externa.
Otinova works by being locally drying, antipruritic, and having a bactericidal and fungicidal effect. Its low pH may help with the removal of moisture in the ear canal, and its contents have an astringent effect on inflamed tissue, potentially soothing itching associated with inflammation or infection.
The recommended usage is 1–2 sprays in the ear canal, morning and evening. It's designed for easy application, and the head should be tilted after spraying to allow the solution to reach deep into the ear canal.
Otinova can be used intermittently, especially during periods of increased risk such as swimming or aquatic sports. It's advised not to use Otinova® continuously for more than 7 days to avoid potential side effects like salt precipitation and severe dehydration of the ear canal.
Side effects may include temporary irritation or burning sensation. In isolated cases, eardrum perforation has been reported with heavy usage. Discontinue use if you experience persistent pain and consult a doctor.
This sensation can occur because Otinova® is an acidic solution. The discomfort is usually temporary, but if persistent pain occurs, it's important to consult a doctor.
The smell is due to the acetic acid component, which has a characteristic odor. This usually dissipates quickly after application.
